How a license comes together
Seven steps, from your first intake to getting paid. You approve every record before it leaves, and nothing is delivered until the buyer and price are in writing.
The seven steps
Fill out the online intake
About 10 minutes
Tell us what you have in the online intake. It gives buyers the detail they ask for first, and your answers save as you go.
Introductory call
20 minutes, video or phone
We sign a mutual NDA first. Then we check fit and scope, and give you an honest read on whether a buyer is likely.
Technical due diligence call
With whoever runs your systems
We map what data exists, where it lives, how far back it goes and how it can be exported. Records your customer contracts keep confidential are flagged and left out.
Contract meeting
The offer and the terms
We walk you through the buyer's offer and every term: exclusivity, payment timing, what the buyer may do with the data, and how it's protected.
Sign the contract
A license limited in scope and time
You grant a license to the approved records and keep ownership of everything. The buyer, price, permitted uses and payment terms are all named in the contract.
Data extraction
Pulled, reviewed and de-identified
We pull the agreed records, review them and de-identify them in an isolated workspace. You approve a sample of exactly what the buyer receives before anything is delivered.
Get paid
Typically 30 to 60 days from extraction
You're paid on the schedule in your contract. We then delete our working copies of your raw exports and confirm it in writing.
Systems we work with
If your history sits in a common business system, we can almost certainly work with an export of it.
| Kind of system | Common examples | What we ask you to export |
|---|---|---|
| Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 | Shared and role mailboxes first; personal mailboxes only with the owner's agreement | |
| Team chat | Slack, Microsoft Teams | Work channels; private messages stay out by default |
| CRM | Salesforce, HubSpot | Accounts, opportunities, activities and notes |
| Accounting | QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite | Invoices, bills, credits and payments; bank details are removed |
| Industry system | TMS, ERP, Procore, agency management, broker software | The records your work runs on: loads, orders, projects, policies, entries |
| Tickets and projects | Jira, Asana, Zendesk | Tickets with their full history and outcomes |
| Shared files | Google Drive, SharePoint | Working documents; HR, legal and executive folders stay out |
What you'll need
- Admin access to export from your systems, or someone who has it
- A list of customer contracts with confidentiality terms. We'll help you find them.
- Someone who can sign for the company
- A few hours of your team's time for the sample review
What it costs
Nothing up front. We're paid a share of the license fee, set in writing before any work on your records begins. If no buyer licenses your records, you owe nothing.
What your license contract covers
- The named buyer, and your right to turn down any buyer
- Permitted use: training and evaluating AI models only
- A ban on any attempt to re-identify people or companies
- No resale or onward transfer without your written consent
- Deletion of the records when the license ends
- The price, payment timing and what happens if the buyer is late
- Exclusivity, if you choose it, and for how long
